Senedd
Welcome to St Mary's Senedd.
Children in St Mary's recognise the importance they play in all aspects of school life, the community and the wider world around them. They have an opportunity to make a difference and do so through our school Senedd. Children in Years 4 to 6 are all members of one of our 12 Senedd groups (see below). Children in Reception to Year 3 are also members as they receive regular updates from the different Senedd groups and share their own ideas via the Senedd Suggestion Box.
The Senedd meets once a fortnight to discuss ways to make a difference in school, the community and the wider world and then put these plans into action. Each group has a staff member to help facilitate but groups are largely run by the children. At the beginning of the year, each group elects a Chairperson and Secretary. The Chairperson is responsible for running the meetings following an agreed agenda, whereas the Secretary is responsible for taking minutes and typing up action plans etc. The children also elected a First Minister and Deputy First Minister (we have two deputies this year due to a tie in votes) to preside over the cabinet meetings and represent the school where necessary.
All Chairpersons meet fortnightly with Mrs Evans, the Head Teacher, for a Cabinet Meeting to keep her informed of progress, ask for permissions, resources or funds to enable the groups to proceed with their plans.
